Epitaphs for Headstones
There is something special to say about everyone but summarizing a life in just a few words can be very difficult. Often a familiar biblical verse or classical quotation is an ideal way to preserve your memories. An epitaph is a short text honoring a deceased person, which is often inscribed or engraved on their headstone.
To start, here is a brief poem that may capture some of your feelings.
I awoke at dawn one morning from a restless night of sorrow,
Praying that with the daylight might come a bright tomorrow.
My heart as cold and hopeless as winter’s deepest chill,
I cried out for understanding and to know my Father’s will.
While treading up a garden path hushed in the fragrant air,
I spied a tender rose, its petals bowed as if in prayer.
As I gazed in silent awe, it occurred to me – He knows!
The tears my Lord has shed for me are the dew upon the rose.
